Kingston police have charged a Lindsay man after they were called to an unprovoked assault on a youth Wednesday night.
A police news release says that at around 11:15 p.m. two girls were walking east on Bath Road in the 1600 block. As they walked they were approached by a man they didn't know. They told police that the man appeared intoxicated and demanded one of the girls have a smoke with him. When she wouldn't, he became enraged and punched her in the face, police said.
An officer nearby found the accused lying face down, passed out on the sidewalk a short time later. When the officer woke the accused he quickly became belligerent and resisted arrest by grabbing her. The officer quickly brought him under control when a citizen intervened to help and a second officer arrived.
An 18-year-old man has been charged by police with assault, assault police and resisting arrest. He was held overnight in police custody to attend bail court on Thursday morning.
