Treat your dog to something special ahead of National Dog Day (Aug. 26).
The Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia will wash your dog for free on Aug. 24 during its fourth annual "Dog Days of Summer" event. It'll have a pop-up doggie salon on the curb by Hotel Monaco from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and, while the washes are free donations are encouraged. The money raised will go towards Saved Me, a no-kill animal shelter.
Saved Me will also be on hand with adoptable dogs.
There will be a caricature artist there too, as well as representatives from the pet store Doggie Style (which will be giving out gifts). Humans can indulge in Rita's samples while their pups get cleaned.
Weird national holidays range from hating Barney to celebrating static
Red Owl Tavern is getting in on the act too with a "Dogs and Suds" happy hour. Deals include $12 bacon and shrimp hushpuppies, $5 Bulldog Gin cocktails and $5 Dogfish Head beers. A portion of happy hour proceeds will go towards Saved Me.
The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is located at 443 Chestnut St. in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia. For more information visit monaco-philadelphia.com.
