Read article : DIY Tank Wand Quick Project
Just thought I'd share my latest RV project. I decided to DIY my own Tank Wand after the one I bought last season snapped off at the handle this Spring. I know these things aren't terribly expensive, but I wanted to accomplish a few things:
1. Build a tank wand to flush my TT's black tank for as little cash as possible
2. Be able to connect the wand to the tub/shower faucet in the trailer's bathroom. In my layout, the bath is right next to the toilet, while the vanity sink is farther away by several feet. I've also had zero luck using the crappy faucet-to-garden hose adapter with previous tank wands.
Materials:
3 ft x 1/2" PEX tubing
1 x 1/2" PEX Plug
1 x 1/2" PEX x 1/2" MPT adapter fitting
2 x 1/2" PEX crimp rings
Tools:
1 x PEX crimp tool
1 x 1/8" drill bit and power drill
Slide both crimp rings onto your length of PEX tubing. Insert the plug fitting in one end of the tubing, and the 1/2" MPT fitting in the other. Use your crimp tool to secure the fittings/crimp rings.
Drill 1/8" hole through the tubing near the plug end. Turn the tubing a quater turn an drill another hole approximately 1/2"-3/4" higher than the first hole. This gives you a 4-way spray pattern at the plug end of your wand.
Unscrew your shower head from the hose connecting it to the tub faucet diverter. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE WASHER ON THE HOSE END. Screw the hose fitting, with washer, onto the 1/2" MPT fitting on the other end of your wand.
Now you can spray out your black tank using the hot and/or cold water tap on your tub/shower! When you're done, disconnect your wand, reconnect your shower head, sanitize your wand and carry on!
Total cost for me was less than $2, as I had a length of PEX tubing left over from another project; I also already owned a crimp tool.
