4Space requirements for furniture
The usefulness of a dwelling highly depends on the way it is furnished. Well organised furniture will increase the usefulness of the dwelling. The following outline with measurements of furniture can be of help to make useful furniture planning. The outline will provide measurement on commonly used furniture and the required free space around the furniture, when they are used and space required for cleaning. Hall way / Entrance A wardrobe or a rack with hangers for 4 persons requires min. 600 x 1200 mm, and a chest of drawers approx. 400 x 800 mm plus free space in front approx. 900 mm. The hall should have a free floor area of at least 1300 x 1300 mm. Bedrooms The size of a bed is approx x 900 mm. Besides that a free space of 700mm along the bed is required. Space required in total 2100 x 1600 mm. 700mm as free floorspace along the bed is not much for cleaning. With 1000 x 1200 mm cleaning becomes much easier. A combined bed- and living room for one person should have a width om min. 2400mm and a floor area of at least 10m2 to give reasonable possibilities for organising furniture in the room. There should be at least 900mm free space in front of wardrobes/cabinets and table to allow space for cleaning and movement.

double bed requires approx. 2100 x 1800 mm, and with free space approx. 2700 x 3200mm including passage at one end og the bed." class="image_link uk-text-large uk-margin-small-left uk-margin-small-right"> 5Bedrooms continued A double bed requires approx x 1800 mm, and with free space approx x 3200mm including passage at one end og the bed. A bedroom furnished with a double bed, should have a floor area of at least 12m2 and one full wall lenght of at least 3200mm. (without windows or doors) Placed parallel two beds including free space occupy at least 2700 x 2100 mm. Two beds placed at an angle should be spaced with a distance of at least 600mm toallow space for cleaning and doing the bed. Total space required for such two beds is approx x 2100mm.

6Arrangement of bedroom
Here are 3 examples of room for one person. The floor area is 8, 10 and 12 m2 The examples illustrate how much can be achieved by increasing the floor area with a few m2.

7Living rooms A sofa and two easy chairs require approx x 3000mm, with three chairs approx x 3000mm and with four chairs approx x 3000mm. In a common living room there should be at leat 3000mm wall space for chest of drawers, bookscase and shelves etc., where books, papers,tv, radio and taperecorder can be placed. An ordinary office desk requires approx. 800 x 1600mm plus space for a chair 900mm, in total 1700 x 1600 mm. A small desk requires approx. 600 x 1200mm plus space for a chair 900mm, in total approx x 1200mm

8Dining area A dining area for 4 persons require approx x 2400mm and for 8 persons approx x 2400mm. Additionally 600mm space for passage should be included at one table end. A dining area with a round table for 4 – 6 persons require approx x 2800mm. If extended for 8 persons the space required is approx x 3400mm. Additional space should be included for passage on at least one side of the table.

9How the individual rooms can be arranged
The possibilities of arranging furniture in a room depends on the size and shape of the room as well as the placement of windows and doors. A room with sizes of approx. 3 x 4 m kan be utilised in a number of ways. For example as bedroom, living room or dinning room.

10Kitchen equipment Kitchen
In a dwelling for persons there should be approx. 4 m work top including cooker and refrigerator, and in an dwelling for 4 – 6 persons the length shuold be approx. 4 – 5 m. Regardless of the kitchen type and shape the best working sequence is aquired when the individual workplaces and work tops in principal are arranged as shown on fig. 1, with dish washing area at the left side. The closet for broom can be placed outside the kitchen, for example in the scullery or entrance room. Also the fridge can be placed outside the kitchen. Dish wash Preparation Cooking Fig. 1 Kitchen Work tops and fixtures for dwelling with 2 – 3 persons Kitchen Work tops and fixtures for dwelling with persons

Dish washing area. Preparation. Cooking." class="image_link uk-text-large uk-margin-small-left uk-margin-small-right"> 11Arranging the Kitchen Dish washing area Preparation Cooking For convenience the cooking place should be placed to the right and the dish washing area to the left side.

12Distances and heights in kitchens

1340m2 utilised in 3 different ways

14Bathroom equipment and arrangement
Bathrooms To ensure a reasonable free floor space and space for cleaning in the bathroom, there should be a free distance of at least 1100mm in front of sanitary equipment. In an extra WC – room a free distance of 600 – 800 mm could be acceptable, but the space is limited and cleaning difficult. Passage With a free area of 600mm one can pass between two pieces of furniture or between a piece of furniture and wall. If 900mm is available one can pass carrying a tray or a bucket and a broom. Areas with intensive traffic, for example between two doors, or between a sofa and a dining place or along a staircase, should be at least 1000mm wide.

15Examples on how bathrooms can be arranged

16Placing of Doors The way a door is placed and the space it occupies when opened, has great influence on the way the room can be furnished and arranged. A door placed close to the corner of a room can be left open without interupting anything. With a distance of 400mm from the corner there is space for a bookcase or shelf behind the door. With 700mm distance a wardrobe or closet can be fixed behind the door. If the distance is 1000mm between door and a corner, it will be possible to place a bed next to the door and if there is 1500mm there could also be room for a bed table. A distance of 2200mm between door and corner allows a bed or sofa to be placed along the wall.

A private retreat in a forest, away from everything sometimes seems like a wonderful idea for spending some away with those that matter the most. One such location is in Tala, India. This is where Architecture Brio completed building a wonderful villa in 2016. It’s a 225 square meter structure which can accommodate four adults and two children.

The villa is surrounded by grass and trees on all sides and even welcomes nature inside of itView in galleryThe villa is surrounded by grass and trees on all sides and even welcomes nature inside of itThe villa is surrounded by grass and trees on all sides and even welcomes nature inside of itView in galleryA viewing deck offers the inhabitants a beautiful place from which to admire the views and relax

The villa looks modest, one of the goals of the architects working on the project being to integrate it into its surrounding as best as possible. It sits on a hilltop, on a cliff with a rather rugged nature. The conditions on the site and the surroundings inspired the simple and modest design of the building and allowed the architects to create a perfect retreat.

The wooden decks are a key element in the design of the villa. They wrap around the interior spaces acting like a buffer between them and the forest that surrounds the house. They also frame the views and serve as perfect spots for meditation sessions.

How To Make The Most Out Of A Small Bathroom Space

Read article : How To Make The Most Out Of A Small Bathroom Space

Designing for small spaces can be difficult, and nowhere is it as difficult as the bathroom. With a small bedroom or living room space, you can at least choose furniture and create a layout that maximizes the interior space – but that’s not the case when you have a small bathroom.

No matter what, you’re still going to need a sink, toilet, storage space, and a shower at minimum. And unless you’re looking to put some serious dollars into the pocket of your local plumber, the interior plumbing of your home dictates that you’re stuck with the existing layout as well.

Although getting the most out of a small bathroom space can be difficult, you can create the illusion of a roomy space by applying basic principles of interior design and adding a touch of your own creativity. The key is to examine each and every element of your bathroom with an eye towards elimination and integration. Does the item take up more space than necessary? Could its functionality be integrated with another item? Could it be tucked away somewhere else?

You’ll also want to ensure that you eliminate any features that jut out into your already small space – this makes it feel more cluttered and cramped. Combine this with the right color combinations and lighting to create the illusion of a spacious retreat.

Whether you’re looking to remodel your bathroom, or just add some finishing touches, here are some additional DIY ideas that you can implement to get the most of your small bathroom space.

1. Use Narrow Wall Shelves

While your first instinct may be to tuck your storage space into the vanity or in a medicine cabinet and eliminate shelves altogether, narrow wall shelves let you maximize interior space while still looking stylish. They’re also extremely easy to install.

A secondary benefit is that you’ll have your key toiletries easily accessible, without needing a large counter space. Use narrow wall shelves to store your soaps, shampoos, cotton balls, towels, and lotion, while leaving your more private toiletries for the vanity.

2. Switch To A Pedestal Sink

There’s certainly a trade off here – on the one hand, a vanity offers hidden storage space and more counter surface. On the other hand, it takes up unnecessary space and makes the bathroom feel smaller. While a pedestal sink may not always be the best choice for your overall design scheme, it’s certainly something to consider.

3. Switch To A Floating Vanity

If a pedestal sink isn’t the right look for you, consider switching to a small floating vanity. This will give your bathroom a more modern and spacious feel, while also giving you some easily accessible storage space under the vanity – a place to tuck your trash can for example.

4. Use A Clear Shower Curtain/Door

You can’t magically expand your bathroom space – or can you? If you have an opaque shower curtain or shower door, you’re just closing off your existing bathroom space. If you want your cozy little bathroom space to feel a little bigger, just add a clear shower curtain/shower door. Your bathroom will instantly feel a whole lot bigger.

5. Choose Soft, Pale Color Schemes

Choosing softer, pale color schemes will help give your bathroom the illusion of space. This certainly doesn’t mean your bathroom has to be painted a flowery pink or all white, but it does mean you’ll want to avoid using bold, strong colors. For background surfaces like the floor and walls, choose from a palette of white, neutral colors, and pastels. Add some brightly colored accessories and towels for accents in order to add some “pop”.

Firefly Farm is a captivating property set on woodlands management farmland-assessed land. It was transformed from a circa 1850 Pennsylvania barn into a luxurious residence in 2000. The result of a comprehensive re-design process is a comfortable home that interweaves 19th century features and modern amenities. Outside, a stone-walled bluestone courtyard, an in-ground swimming pool, green lawns and perennial gardens enhance the landscaped acreage.

Original appointments include rough-hewn ceiling beams, barn wood walls and ceilings, geometric trusses and wide plank pine wood floors. These details complement newer installations like a hot water radiant floor heating system serving most of the home, an updated kitchen combining old and new amenities, and spacious bedrooms. Oversized and transom-topped divided light windows brighten the open concept layout.

Introduced by French doors, the entry offers dramatic views into the open floor plan. Capped by a rough-hewn wood mantle, the walk-in stone fireplace is a commanding focal point in the living room. In the banquet-sized dining room, ambient lighting from wall sconces and spot lights are thoughtful features.

Truly the heart of this appealing home, a country kitchen contains painted wood cabinetry, granite counters, a center island with seating, built-in corner hutch, double soapstone farm sink and walk-in pantry. A full complement of appliances includes an electric cooktop, double oven, built-in microwave, dishwasher and Sub-Zero refrigerator. Windows surround a breakfast nook with a built-in bench. Nearby are the brick-floored mud room, well-appointed laundry room and powder room.

Reclaimed bricks were used to create a wood-burning fireplace in the library. Built-in cabinets and shelves, a wet bar with refrigerator, beamed ceilings and 12-inch wide distressed wood floors lend additional character to this handsome space.

Privately situated on the first floor, a master bedroom contains two walk-in closets and French doors to the courtyard. The master bath includes a jetted Jacuzzi tub, two sink vanities, separate shower and garden views.

A staircase to the second story is detailed with reclaimed newel post balusters and hand railing. There is an open loft/study plus three bedrooms. Additional living space in the basement is comprised of a play room/media room, exercise room with wood floors and three storage rooms.

Now this is a grand design and it's in Burbage

Read article : Now this is a grand design and it's in Burbage

This beautifully-designed modern home in Burbage hits that perfect point where a striking design doesn’t appear too abrasive.

When the current owners built this contemporary home in Rugby Road two years ago, the main drive was sustainability and low maintenance.

Now this property is on the market courtesy of Fine and Country, for a cool £650,000.

Built to high industry standards, it has exceptional insulation values and is supported by another rarity - an A-grade EPC rating.

With the balance of the warranty still available, this is an extremely economical house, and energy bills can be kept even lower with electricity provided by solar panels on the back of the house.

Additional benefits include an 11 zone gas-fired under floor heating to both the ground and a solid first floor.

A heat recovery whole house ventilation system is in place providing temperature control free from stuffy or stale rooms throughout.

Further modernities include A-rated aluminum powder-coated windows and doors, an alarm system, and a commercial quality Sarnafil single ply roof.

Quietly tucked away on the street it still manages a double garage and a south west-facing private landscaped rear garden with a fishpond.

For living space, the property offers three to four reception rooms, four, possibly five bedrooms and four bathrooms, of which three are en suites.

Double doors open to the spacious open-plan hallway which has Amtico flooring that flows through most of the ground floor.

From here, an internal hardwood door gives direct access to the garage and there are full height windows and double doors overlooking the private courtyard.

A little further on a central oak staircase rises to the first floor with two stainless steel handrails.

Heading first in to the smart open-plan kitchen one can see an extensive range of cream-fronted base units including twin-pan drawers and an integrated Smeg dishwasher.

Cooks can enjoy a Bosch electric fan-assisted double oven with a five-ring gas hob and a bespoke extractor above.

There is plumbing for an American-style fridge/freezer unit - just what is needed for those hot days - and three full-height spice racks and storage cupboards.

There are Quartz work surfaces with a built-in drainer and an inset Blanco sink unit and mixer tap.

Heading back out into the hall way, and to the right of the staircase, doors lead to the cloakroom which has a close-coupled toilet and a contemporary washstand.

The well-fitted study offers shelving, cupboards and a work station and is tucked away with a telephone point and two windows.

In here an open doorway and curtains lead into the versatile media room which has black cabinets and wired for a large screen and surround sound.

It could provide a second office or a small sitting room for children if preferred.

On the other side the stairs, another door gives access to the private ground floor guest bedroom which has double doors overlooking the courtyard.

There are fitted quality wardrobes and an en-suite shower room, with a Grohe shower unit, pedestal wash hand basin, low-level toilet, quality ceramics, fitted mirrors, and an opaque window.

But the real selling point is the stunning open plan combined living, dining and morning room.

The stunning open-plan lounge is light and bright and is perfect to enjoy those cold but <a href=sunny winter afternoons. Property for sale in Burbage with Fine and Country of Rugby." src="src" />

Upstairs, the first floor landing has a large picture window with an inset roof window making this a visually stunning and bright area.

With full-height windows there is a fine vista from the galleried landing over the living area and the rear garden.

The master bedroom has engineered wood flooring with smart reading lights with TV and telephone points and two discreet slit windows with shutters allowing views of the ground floor.

Bi-fold doors (and insulated shutters) give access to the balcony which has a stainless steel and glass balustrade.

The garage to the front is at the end of a block-paved driveway providing ample parking for two large vehicles while the garage has an automatic up and over insulated sectional panel door.

There is light and power connected with a rear personnel door and a work bench.

To the side of the house is a well-stocked border with grasses, lavender and some colourful annuals.

There is a lockable side gate to the left of the garage leading to a deep storage shed for garden machinery.

On the far side of the house there is a private courtyard area with stone chippings and multi coloured paving slabs.

A wide gravel pathway leads round to the main garden.

The rear garden has been thoughtfully-landscaped and is a very low maintenance.

Facing south west it offers a good degree of privacy.

There is a sunny private terrace directly behind the house and a pathway leads to a seating area which offers the best view of the rear elevation.

The substantial fishpond was a feat of engineering with a raised viewing area, pump and filtration system.

It is raised above the garden and retained by a well-stocked rockery and some large pieces of local stone.

To the right of the path is high-quality astroturf with Welsh slate borders and two ornamental trees. There is a further slate border with a raised rockery planted with a colourful selection of grasses, heathers and specimen trees.

The garden is enclosed on all three sides by wooden close boarded fencing, a neighboring garage wall, established conifer trees and a buddleia.

The elevated balcony is ideal to catch the last western rays of sunshine after a typical busy day.

Homes of this quality are rarely available so an early viewing is advised.

As the current owner, Gabriella said: “My husband and I had always wanted to build our own home, and when the opportunity arose in 2013 we jumped at the chance and we are absolutely thrilled with the result.”
