Anyone who casts their eyes over my little blog on a regular basis may have seen me write up my thoughts on Molton Brown Black Peppercorn Body Wash will know that I loved the manly fragrance and the fact that it banished BO (body odour). I was impressed, so when that ran out and a bottle of Molton Brown Templetree Body Wash appeared I couldn’t wait to try it out. 

I was so eager to try it that once again I committed the cardinal sin of beauty blogging by using it before taking photographs from several thousand angles - you would have thought I would learn but…..

Anyway, a small 100ml bottle of Templetree appeared, spookily a day after I had commented on a picture of it on Instagram saying I wanted to try it. Not spooky really, I could probably pick fifty random beauty products and the missus will have it somewhere. Needless to say, you don’t have to fear that my opinion has been influenced in any way.

Like my last post, it could be me being tight with money or just because I have no idea how much things cost nowadays but £18 seems a lot to pay for a body wash. Go on, say it, I’m tighter than the rear end of a fish..….

Well, I now know what it used to be called, and the way my brain works I’ll retain that useless fact until the day I expire! 

Like other Molton Brown body wash this lathers up really well even when using only a little. If you look at the bottle in the pictures you can see how much has been used - that is after I had used Templetree for three days, so a little goes a long way, and in fact this what I consider small 100ml bottle will last for ages.

The fragrance is the clincher for me when I thought about whether I would recommend this. The jasmine and rose give this an incredibly strong aroma that is only magnified by the hot water of a shower. The lather retains it’s rich texture for ages and as it is absorbed into the top layer of skin you really start to just pull out the rose notes. 

While a lovely fragrance not that manly - so I was pleased that like an aftershave, once dried it took on a warmth as the rose was replaced by subtle hints of the sandalwood. For me, once dried off the fragrance is perfect for both sexes, not too feminine and not too masculine. 

But does it banish BO? Yes, yes it does, and even better, once it has helped wash the stink off it does have a positive effect on my skin, it does feel smoother - it’s not groundbreaking but there is an obvious difference.
Like most things I suppose, it depends upon your own personal preference, but if you like subtle floral fragrances with a solid warm base that will help clean away your sins in the shower then this baby is for you. Personally, and considering I’m tight I will buy this when the current body runs out. Hell, a 300ml bottle would probably last me for months!

Rituals is a Dutch bath-and-body company founded in 2000, but since it only began selling its products in the United States about six months ago — first at Barneys, then in a Rituals storefront in New York's SoHo neighborhood — I didn't have the chance to try them until this winter. The Rituals product line is extensive, so I started with one of its best-selling products: Foaming Shower Gel Sensation, a new twist on an everyday shower item, available in six scents.

Whereas most shower-friendly body cleansers are thick liquids sold in bottles with flip-tops or pump dispensers, Rituals' shower gel is packaged in a metal canister like a shaving product. It acts like a shaving product, too, turning from a stream of translucent gel into a fluffy, foamy lather when it hits a damp washcloth or a mesh puff. (I prefer the latter for all my shower needs.) I'm not sure what the benefit of this foaming technology is; maybe it's just a gimmick? As a body product, this gel-foam is effective and seems gentle on the skin, but I wouldn't be recommending it if I didn't enjoy the fragrances, too.

Zensation is a very popular scent in the Rituals product catalogue; it's inspired by the Japanese cherry blossom, and we all know that cherry blossom body products tend to be hits. This seems like a nice enough take on the theme, with a fruity cherry note and a powdery-milky rice note. Although I must say that I'm just not a fan of cherry blossom products in general, I prefer this interpretation to the one sold by Bath & Body Works. (As Victoria recently mentioned in an article for the Financial Times, cherry blossom fragrances are never quite true to the real thing.)

Yogi Flow, however, is right up my olfactive alley. This blend contains sweet almond oil for its moisturizing effect and rosa damascena oil for its scent (as well as synthetic fragrance ingredients); the result is a bright, raspberry-tinged rose that fills the steamy air in the shower and lingers on the skin. It's not as rich and complex as the scent of Lush's Rose Jam, but since Rose Jam was only a limited edition, I'm happy to find something that I like enough to use as a substitute. I'm even tempted to return to the Rituals shop to pick up some matching body oil and lotion.

Hammam Delight was a last-second choice; it seems to be part of the Rituals "masculine" collection (darker packaging with blue accents, right?), so I initially wavered. I'm glad I ended up grabbing it, because its rosemary and eucalyptus scent is intensely aromatic and has turned out to be an excellent sinus-clearer for my seasonal pollen allergies. I also like having a more herbal shower product around for the warmer weather, whenever it comes.

I have to confess that when I first glanced over the Rituals line, I thought it was a bunch of Molton Brown knock-offs; now, having tried a few products and looked more closely at the boutique and the website, I can say that Rituals does have some interesting products to try and that I definitely prefer its fragrance blends to Molton Brown's signature scents, most of which have never quite agreed with me. Not to mention that the Rituals price point is lower...and now that I can easily try and buy more products from this company, I'll most likely be back for more.

We were looking for a peaceful, romantic getaway that was close to the town but felt like it was in the country and Apsley House fit the bill perfectly. We arrived Friday night after the reception had closed and were given directions to let ourselves in, which were very easy to follow.

The room was immaculate and the bed was divine - we felt like a king and queen in the gorgeous four-poster bed (Wellesley Room, ground floor) and slept brilliantly. The shower was also fantastic, with gorgeous complimentary Molton Brown lotions to use, and the towels were amazingly soft and luxurious.

Breakfast was incredible, including the sweetest, freshest fruit I've ever tasted, served on the lovely French Dresser, and beautifully cooked breakfasts prepared by the kitchen. Impressively there were ample gluten-free and vegetarian options, which was fantastic. The view was delightful and the service impeccable.

As there are only a dozen rooms and the bar shuts at 10pm, the whole house was wonderfully quiet in the evenings and the hot chocolate in the room made for a cosy bedtime experience watching a late night movie on the wall-mounted tv.

The garden was very well taken care of, although sadly the weather wasn't great while we were there. Everything about the house exuded class and elegance, right down to the napkins at breakfast which are made of the softest linen.

Last, but by no means least, the service was first class. The managers were relaxed and inconspicuous but always ready to help with guidance to add to the enjoyment of our stay - and their smiles were infectious. The website and local information provided in the room was also very helpful.

We were able to walk into Bath City Centre or catch a cab there or back (approx £7 each way) so we were able to enjoy everything the city had to offer during the day and then sink into bed at the end of the day. Had we had time (and good weather) no doubt we would have ventured for a walk into the countryside, going down to the waterside and perhaps visiting some of the local pubs.

It really was the perfect choice for a weekend break, I can't think of a single flaw - even the other guests were lovely! The only problem was that we couldn't stay longer.
Highly recommended.
