CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hyatt announced today the opening of Hyatt Centric Montevideo, the brand’s first hotel to open outside of North America, and the second Hyatt-branded property in Uruguay. The 178-room hotel is located in the bustling Pocitos neighborhood, a prime destination for guests to explore and discover the heart of Montevideo. Hyatt Centric Montevideo is in close proximity to many of the area’s business and leisure districts, including the World Trade Center, Montevideo Shopping and Ciudad Vieja, as well as La Rambla, the coastal avenue where locals meet daily to exercise, socialize and take in the city’s best sunsets.

Arrival Experience

Guests can begin their journey cruising the Uruguayan coastline along La Rambla, the 19 mile (30km) waterside promenade near Hyatt Centric Montevideo. Upon entering the hotel, a large lounge welcomes guests as they make their way to the stylish lobby area. A stained-glass inspired ceiling invites natural light into the space and marks a central point that integrates the hotel’s restaurant, lobby and bar. The hotel design sets the stage for an authentic Montevideo experience and includes mosaic floors, eclectic ambiance and local artwork combined with modern luxury design, creating a touch of local culture. Large windows from the bar, deli and library offer sweeping views of the Rio de la Plata.

Design and Guestrooms

Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort was created by the award-winning Belgian architect, Jean-Michel Gathy of the renowned design-consultancy firm, Denniston. The strikingly modernist development comprises six standalone, arch-shaped buildings designed to allow chi, the traditional Chinese notion of energy, to flow unhindered between ocean and mountains. Set amid the lush landscape next to the beautiful Nan Hu Lake, the placement of every building and internal space has been carefully considered to maximize guests’ enjoyment of the breathtaking view. The six buildings are linked by wide walkways and are decorated with paintings and sculptures to create a tranquil and rarefied art-walk experience.

Designed to replicate the feeling of living in a private mansion by the sea, the sophisticated, elegant interiors are residential in style with a subtle Chinese sensibility. Drinking and Dining

The ethos of the international culinary team at Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort is to offer a range of authentic Chinese and Western dishes that incorporate ingredients of the highest quality, sourced locally wherever possible. In keeping with the residential concept and ambience of a resort setting, guests are welcome to order from the menu or request bespoke dishes as relaxed and freely as they might do at home. The culinary team is primed to create unique and memorable dining experiences for guests, whether it is a champagne breakfast on the beach, a family barbecue in the villa, or a sunset supper on a yacht.

This is an obituary to the historian Trevor Fawcett, compiled by Mary Ede with contributions from Stephen Bird, Philippa Bishop, Brenda Buchanan, Mary Fawcett, Colin Johnston, Lucy Powell and Michael Rowe.

The great achievement of Trevor Fawcett, who died on July 21, was to open up the fascinating detail of life in 18th century Bath through his writings on a whole range of subjects. His meticulous research and his eminently readable articles and books have been the inspiration for so many other historians both amateur and professional over the past 30 years. Trevor showed us that the stories of everyday people and events in Georgian Bath are there to be found in archival sources if only we take the time to look.

In 1986 he was the inspiration behind the History of Bath Research Group and its guiding secretary for many years. He believed the word ‘research’ in its name signified genuine interest in forwarding research rather than mere attendance at meetings and talks. Trevor had arrived in Bath in 1984 at the age of 50 having taken early retirement from the library of the University of East Anglia. The first chairman of the HBRG, Brenda Buchanan, drew an apt parallel with Edmund Rack who two hundred years earlier had arrived in Bath, also from Norfolk, and within two years had founded the Bath and West Agricultural Society and become its secretary.

In the first year the HBRG grew to some 80-100 more-or-less active members and proved a lively forum for the sharing of ideas and the promotion of local research. The time was ripe: there was a new archivist, Colin Johnston, at the Bath Record Office, the Bath Archaeological Trust was sponsoring a new biennial journal called Bath History and sympathetic staff in the Reference Library were keen to promote local research. But there is no doubt that it was Trevor’s assiduous nurturing that established the group’s role in the city and encouraged its development.

Trevor recognised that in Bath local history is conducted largely by non-professionals and he was ever ready to give help where needed. He was well aware of the pitfalls in local history, especially of antiquarianism or the failure to appreciate the wider context and was able to advise how to avoid them. Trevor was convinced that the worldwide influence of the conduct of social life in 18th century Bath should be understood.

In his own research he always tried to open up new territory and encourage others to use the archival riches on their doorstep. He was scrupulous in maintaining the high standard he set himself in carrying out his own research and always so generous in sharing the fruits of his own wide scholarship with anyone seeking his help, while at the same time always so modest about his own achievements. His output in articles and books was prodigious and ranged widely over the life and activities of 18th century Bath. It was not surprising that he was invited to edit Bath History in 1990 and he also edited the following two volumes in 1992 and 1994.

He always organised his time carefully. He hated waste of all kinds - time, effort, materials, but especially time. Life was structured and carefully organised. The evening meal was always at 6pm so he could start work at his desk at 7pm (often to 11pm or midnight) unless there was an evening engagement. Weekends were always free for family pursuits.

Life had begun in Leeds: Trevor was born in 1934, the only child of Irene and Joseph Fawcett, a wholesale florist in Leeds Market. Childhood was affected by war-time rationing, nights in an air-raid shelter, nearby bombs. He was a ‘cassocked and surpliced treble’ in the church choir until his voice broke. Then Leeds Grammar School after the war and from 1952 -1955 he studied Portuguese, French and Geography at Leeds University while still living at home. So National Service was his first time away and he spent two years on an intensive course to become a Russian interpreter. Being undecided about his future, he led a number of Ramblers trips in Europe (on one at Positano he met his future wife, Mary) and discovered the joys of planning visits by public transport which continued throughout his life.

In the autumn of 1958 he decided to qualify as a librarian through a postgraduate course in London and later became Fellow of the Library Association. His first post in 1960 was at Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology (later De Montfort University) and – significant for the future – was converted to the fascination of the 18th century by Norman Scarfe at an Adult Education Centre. In 1962, after marriage, he worked for three years at the University of Southampton Library, responsible for cataloguing, and began researching in the local history library. It was there that he discovered the riches of newspapers for the historian, which formed such a significant source for him in Bath.

In 1963 came the move to the new University of East Anglia where he was in charge of cataloguing and also responsible for visual arts and music. There was plenty of government funding and he built up an exciting collection of books on art and music, and wrote widely on art librarianship in the Art Library Journal. He proposed an organisation to bring art librarians together and this became ARLIS. Today it flourishes across UK and Ireland and has spawned associations around the world.

Trevor continued to write articles on aspects of art librarianship and more widely on the history of art. His first book The Rise of English Provincial Art: Artists, Patrons and Institutions outside London 1800-1850 was published 1974. He became deeply absorbed in Norwich’s rich past, especially the 18th century, and numerous articles appeared. Over the UEA years he enabled many students and staff in their own research and studies and these friendships continued after the move to Bath. Trevor’s energy was unstoppable! It was a happy family time too with their sons Adrian and Jon, and Trevor was a hands-on father, and a good DIY man.

In 1984 the end of liberal funding of universities meant that Trevor’s opportunities for building the art and music section of the Library were over. He also felt that he had established a sound cataloguing system for the arts in the library. There was the chance for early retirement (at 50) which he decided to take and after 19 years in Norwich a new location seemed right. The move to Bath was to prove fertile ground for the next 30 years of research.

Trevor’s life falls into three parts, geographical and chronological: Leeds and growing up; Norwich and librarianship; Bath and early retirement but continuing research. Naturally there were developments through a long life but the same Trevor emerges, and each part has passed on or strengthened something of the central core. Being an only child gave him self-reliance and his linguistic abilities led him into European travel; building up an art and music collections developed his creative and organisational skills and historical research increased its hold; finally full-time research in Bath increased his published output and the kindness with which he enabled others to follow in his footsteps.

Trevor had many other interests which Mary shared: art, chamber music, environmental matters, natural history (monitoring butterflies on Bannerdown) and much else. He was asked by Stephen Bird who interviewed him in 2011, of what was he most proud and what did he count as his greatest achievement. He replied ‘I don’t know about “achievement” but undoubtedly my family – including my two sons and three grandchildren.’

Initially built to cater to the Hospitality Management students of Lyceum - Northwestern University, Hotel Le Duc in Dagupan City opened as a hotel in 2014. Managed by the university's College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management, it is a 30-room, 5-storey hotel located right beside the Lyceum-Northwestern University along Tapuac district, Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Catering to local and foreign tourists visiting this side of the Northern Philippines, this is definitely one of the most modern and newest hotels in Dagupan City.

Coming from Manila, we arrived at the bus station in the city center of Dagupan City. We then took a tricycle to get to Hotel Le Duc which is about 10 minutes away from the bus terminal.

Upon arriving at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff and assisted us with checking-in. Since it was still very early, our room was not yet ready as it is still occupied by that time. We decided to just leave our luggage in our friends' room and went out to have lunch.

We went back at around 1:00 PM and we're able to check-in. Upon entering our room, I was quite impressed with the room's size. It is quite big and pleasantly fixed.

The room features modern and classy interiors with top-notch amenities designed for business and leisure travelers. It is characterized with earth tone shades of beige, brown and white which gives a very calming and relaxing feel. The room smells fresh, clean and feels very airy as there were not too much clutter inside the room. Only the much-needed amenities are inside.

Our room, which is a Deluxe Room is equipped with the much needed amenities needed for a comfortable stay. It has individually-controlled air-conditioning unit, a small work desk, telephone, luggage rack, a closet and a breakfast nook. Wi-Fi connectivity anywhere in the hotel connects you to the internet and a cable-ready LED TV will keep you entertained. Truly, every guest will have a relaxing stay here.

It has one queen-sized bed with small bed tables on both sides. It has fresh clean white sheets, pillows and blanket that perfectly compliment it. I hurriedly tried it! It is firm and not too soft, which I like! I just hope they use comforters instead of blankets.

The room also features a glass window with an access door on the side leading to a private veranda. No smoking is allowed inside the room, you may do it in the veranda.

The toilet and bathroom is also spacious and looks very clean. It has an enclosed shower area with hot and cold shower. The water pressure is good, the water closet has a bidet and it also comes with basic toiletries and bathroom amenities such as shampoo with conditioner, bath soap and dental care kits. The bath towels are soft and all smell fresh! I couldn't ask for more, all I need are already here!

With this kind of amenities, every guest will surely have a relaxing and comfortable stay that they'll end up just staying inside the comforts of their room.

We were given the chance to check on the other rooms. I like the hotel's long hallways accentuated with nice paintings and adequate lighting.

A smaller and cheaper room that could accommodate up to 2 persons. It also comes with an air-conditioning unit, an LCD TV with cable channels, cabinet and en suite toilet and bath with hot a cold shower and toiletries.

It has the same amenities with our Deluxe Room. The only difference is the bed configuration as this room comes in 2 double beds joined together by a small bed table and can accommodate up to 4 persons.

The largest and grandest among all the rooms at Hotel Le Duc. The Presidential Suite has one king-sized bed, a small living area, cabinets, a breakfast nook, working desk, luggage rack, LCD television set and other amenities needed for a comfortable stay. At the time of our visit last January 2015, their restaurant is not yet open. But they are planning to open it this 1st quarter of 2015.

Bistro Florence will be Hotel Le Duc's in-house restaurant offering a wide selection of local and international dishes to cater to hotel and non-hotels guests.

We were able to see its interiors and I must say, "it looks very classy and elegant!" I will definitely dine here when I visit Dagupan City soon!

There are also food shops just outside the hotel and a 24-hour convenience store nearby. So getting hungry anytime of the day will not be a problem.

Located at the 5th floor is their very huge ballroom which can accommodated up to 300 people. It is an ideal venue for private, corporate and other social events such as wedding receptions, birthdays, reunions, meetings and conventions.
