Object description

Troops serving with the 15th Scottish Division enjoy a shower at an RAOC Mobile Bath Unit (MBU) during their division's rest period after Operation 'Epsom'.

Physical description

35mm

Full description

Infantrymen belonging to the 9th Battalion the Cameronian's 'A' Company march into the MBU, which has been kept under canvas near Secqueville-en-Bessin by a 2nd Army Mobile Bath and laundry Unit; men serving with the 190th Field Regiment RA's 531st Battery can be seen in the background drying themselves and relaxing after a shower. The new arrivals have a smoke, read newspapers and chat amongst themselves before they undress and queue up to enter the shower tents. At the working end of the part of the MBU, where water pumped from a nearby stream is heated by a petrol-fired boiler, an RAOC orderly operates a hand pump which delivers hot water to six shower units. Men in the showers are seen scrubbing themselves with soap and then drying themselves. Having dressed, a rifleman combs his hair, using a polished cigarette tin as a mirror, and dons his helmet before he and his section leave the MBU.
