Advice on a small bathroom remodel

We have a 1286sf cape cod with 1.5 baths. The main bath measures 6'4"×5'11". It has a normal 60"× 30" shower/tub combo along the longer wall with part of the bathroom window into the tub. Then on opposite wall sits the toilet and pedestal sink. I would like to have a decent size vanity with counter space and storage put in the bathroom. To achieve this, I would need to move the toilet besides the tub. Should I go with a smaller shower/tub combo (48"×30") or just do a shower only (like a 42"×30")??? If I put tub and toilet on same wall with tub in an alcove, I wouldn't have enough clearance for the toilet by code. I will have 24" left over to fit toilet in, to the minimum 30" required. Looking for thoughts on how to achieve a more functional small bathroom and if I should keep a shower/tub combo if I plan on living here for at least 10 more years.

My husband is kind of an handy man. He has redone the children's bathroom on his own, putting in a new path and tiling it all. He is going to do most of the work with the new master bathroom. I want to have a steam shower. Because of the technical complexity, he's afraid to to him by himself. He does not trust a contractor either, because it is hard to find a competent one and we want no trouble with moisture leaking in the house. He wants to buy a commercial steam shower, for example, steam planet or Ariel model. I am afraid the quality may not be what we expect. It is difficult to find reviews. I am looking for advices.
