How to maximise your bathroom budget

Read article : How to maximise your bathroom budget

Whether your bathroom budget is big or small, be sure to maximise it with expert design tips, detailed planning and smart shopping.

How to make money from your home Intro Image

Your bathroom might be the smallest room in the house, but it’s easy for a refurbishing budget to spiral out of control. So how to make your money go further without compromising on style? Affordable products, reining in additional costs and ensuring your design works hard all help to stretch a budget. Start by working out which areas are worth investing in and where you can be thrifty, as well as the finishing touches that will take your project to the next level.

Where to spend

Shopping online makes it feel as if there are bargains to be had, but some buys are better value than others. Most experts agree that good brassware is worth the investment, especially if replacing valves further down the line means damaging walls to access them. ‘Taps are the only true mechanical component, so durability and reliability are key,’ says Phil Etherden, managing director at The Albion Bath Company (01255 831 605; albionbathco.com). ‘Remember that the fitting costs of expensive or bargain products will be the same, and that if you buy cheap, you buy twice.’ Spend on showers, too. They need to be able to withstand daily use, and they could save money on water and energy bills if they have eco settings or are thermostatic.

It’s also worth allocating some of your budget to storage. Buy units that are durable – essential when you consider how many times a day doors and drawers will be opened.

Where to save

Timeless white sanitaryware tends to be inexpensive, but do check its quality. ‘It’s vital to shop carefully as there are low-cost imports that will not give long service,’ says Howard Birch, director at Aston Matthews (020 7226 7220; astonmatthews.co.uk). ‘Cheap ceramicware can have bubbles and faults that result in stains or cracks, while bargain cast-iron baths may have a thin enamel finish that will chip.’ The style of sanitaryware will also affect fitting costs: although wall-hung designs look striking, they may need false walls to conceal brackets, so floorstanding items can be more economical.

Mixing affordable buys with pricier elements will give your design a high-end feel. ‘If you’ve found an expensive tile that you love, try incorporating it as an accent alongside a neutral, cheaper tile to get a luxurious look,’ says James Holt, co-founder of Holt (020 8878 2555; holtgroup.co.uk). ‘Similarly, think about how you use materials. Granite countertops come with a hefty price tag, but you can save by buying a slab with imperfections that can be hidden by your basin or taps.’

Low-profile shower trays are a way to create the style of a wet room without the cost of tanking, while framed enclosures are cheaper than frameless. If you’re including a tub, there is a wide range of good-value and sized-down acrylic baths. Available in many shapes, they are low maintenance, keep water warmer for longer and often come in design-led styles.

What’s new?

A wider choice of products makes creating the look you want more achievable. ‘For example, developments in the manufacture of acrylic have allowed for a more affordable alternative to cast iron, copper and tin previously used to make freestanding baths,’ says Tina Robinson, product manager at Heritage Bathrooms (0330 026 8503; heritagebathrooms.com). ‘We can now apply a more detailed design concept, including different lacquered finishes, plus it’s a lighter material, meaning no floor reinforcement is required.’

Technologies that have previously been the preserve of high-end bathrooms are starting to filter into the middle market. These include integral lighting, Bluetooth speakers, rimless WCs, charging sockets, colour-changing LEDs, de-misting functions and digital technologies. ‘Certain digital showers come with wireless controls, which gives more  exibility on the location of the shower valve,’ says Chris Taylor, a designer at Bristan (0330 026 6273; bristan.com).

In high-end bathrooms, luxurious finishes such as black and rose-gold brassware and silk-matt surfaces are becoming more popular. Ultra-thin edges for basins and baths, fully flush shower surfaces and pared-back cabinetry are the newest additions to many ranges, with composites and metallic finishes allowing adventurous shapes.

Shower solutions for hotels – High-quality shower trays for all...

Read article : Shower solutions for hotels – High-quality shower trays for all...

Modern shower solutions are integral components of contemporary hotel bathrooms and feature in every bathroom. In private residential buildings, the aesthetics and spatial aspects of the shower area define its design. But in the commercial sector, technical factors such as the anti-slip class, sound insulation or accessibility have to be considered additionally.

Villeroy & Boch, as a partner for the property business, provides a large selection of high-quality shower trays made of acrylic, Quaryl® and ceramic, which are available in a wide selection of standard as well as customised sizes. The Infinity shower trays, awarded the iF DESIGN AWARD 2016, can be cut into individual customised sizes and special factors such as protrusions or corners can also be taken into account. Villeroy & Boch has classic shower trays in white and in other colours, which incorporate the latest trends in trays, as well as ceramic shower trays with selected tile designs.

Walk-in shower areas – flush-fitting, on tiles or a base

When sophisticated hotels are built nowadays, the shower areas are designed as spacious walk-in spa showers with flat, rimless shower trays. Guests are able to enjoy a spacious shower room, which can also be designed as an accessible room so that guests with disabilities or limited mobility can easily use them.

Experts use materials such as ceramic, Quaryl® or acrylic as they provide significant benefits compared to tiled floors. In wet areas with tiled floors, the joints can still become leaky even if the tiles were laid by a professional, resulting in extensive renovation in the shower area. Moisture can also cause damage to the walls and floors, which often leads to costly refurbishments. Walk-in shower trays are also ideal for a more hygienic environment. Thanks to the smooth, closed surface, dirt particles and bacteria cannot grip onto anything – in marked contrast to porous joints where germs and mould can build up, posing a health risk to hotel guests. Hoteliers, therefore, are confronted with comparatively high costs for thoroughly cleaning and taking care of shower areas with tiles and joints. However, walk-in showers only need water and a neutral cleaning agent to get them hygienically clean, and it takes a lot less time to do so, too. The results: fewer cleaning costs in total and, therefore, a lower environmental impact because significantly fewer non-aggressive cleaning agents are used. Another advantage of shower trays is the flexible installation. When a floor-level shower is neither desired nor possible, for example when it is being renovated, then there are functional and attractive shower solutions, which allow shower trays to be installed on the existing tiles or on a base in the shower area. To ensure builders, hoteliers and planners of hotel bathrooms have as many planning options for shower areas as possible, Villeroy & Boch's collections have high-quality shower trays with many different designs, e.g. Squaro Infinity made of Quaryl®, Subway Infinity made of ceramic and Architectura MetalRim made of acrylic.

Squaro Infinity

The Squaro Infinity shower trays made of Quaryl®, the patented material made of acrylic resin and quartz, have very exact edges for flush-fit installation thanks to the integrated ribbed technology and special casting process. The easy-to-clean, durable surface is warm underfoot and has the highest anti-slip class C. It has also been certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics according to DIN 4109, the technical guidelines for sound insulation. This ensures that they are safe to use and noise is reduced, as is required in hotels.

The Squaro Infinity shower trays are available in nearly 50 standard sizes and can also be custom-cut with millimetre precision upon request. The shower trays can be cut to size on site with the proper tools and the instructions manual. A special installation system is used that has a steel beam and a frame that can be cut to fit all shower sizes.

To ensure it is integrated harmoniously into the existing interior, Squaro Infinity is available in the five solid matt colours of Edelweiss, Anthracite, Grey, Brown and Crème.

Subway Infinity

The Subway Infinite ceramic shower trays are also available in a wide variety of models. They come in 26 sizes, ranging from 80 x 75 cm to the XXL format of 160 x 100 cm, as well as in customised sizes and shapes. The flush outlet in the shower tray creates a clear and harmonious look. Subway Infinity is available in the three standard anti-slip colours in class B (PN18) - White Alpin, Ardoise and Taupe.

There are also Subway Infinity shower trays with Villeroy & Boch tile designs. By implementing ViPrint, an innovative, digital printing technology for ceramic shower trays, the patterns of selected floor tiles can be printed on 19 different sizes of trays. There are currently eight designs of successful tile series available, from a beige natural stone look through contemporary wood shades to a minimalist modern concrete effect in grey and anthracite. The shower bases are cut after glazing, printing and firing, ensuring the pattern extends all the way to the edges. Precise cutting allows flush integration in tiled floors, resulting in a consistent and seamless surface. The ViPrint versions are available in the anti-slip class A (PN12).

Architectura MetalRim

The Architectura MetalRim shower trays in the professional Architectura collection are the ideal choice for hotel bathrooms that require very robust floor-level showers. The four corners of the ultra-flat, rimless acrylic shower trays have been reinforced with galvanised steel, making them extremely stable and durable. They are cast from 4 mm solid-coloured sanitary acrylic that has been tested according to EN 249 and is extremely resilient, shock- and impact-proof and completely colour-fast. The easy-to-clean surface is UV-resistant and can be repaired easily even after it has been installed. The shower trays are, therefore, extremely sustainable. Villeroy & Boch gives ten years' warranty on these high-quality material properties.

Thanks to the special technology with steel-reinforced edging, Architectura MetalRim provides a high level of stability and has a load-bearing capacity of up to 1,000 kg. For more safety, customers can opt for a Vilbogrip anti-slip class C finish.

The design features a minimalistic, ultra-flat, rimless tray with a flush outlet cover. The white outlet cover is included in the delivery and is available upon request in Chrome Matt and chrome-plated. The outflow capacity of 51 litres of water per minute makes it highly efficient.

31 different designs are available, each with 15-mm or 48-mm rims and in two finishes, making 124 versions in total. Both 15-mm versions are wheelchair accessible; the 48-mm version is only wheelchair accessible when installed in the screed.

Tips for Choosing the Right Shower Tray

Read article : Tips for Choosing the Right Shower Tray

Choose a tray that is made of good quality material, of the right size, is easily installable, and does not cause a hazard while entering and exiting the shower area.
Shower trays are ideal for those who want a separate shower area or enclosed showers. They make the bathroom look more sorted and sectioned. They give the image of a well-planned bathroom. But the only glitch in buying a tray is its selection process, but it has been simplified for you in this Buzzle compilation.
Selecting a Shower Tray - Made Easy

In the market, even though there are shower trays made of numerous material, stone resin, acrylic, and ceramic shower trays are the most popular.

Stone resin trays are those that are made from crushed stone and a resin-based glue. Once the mix has been prepared, it is poured in a mold, and then set to harden. It is then coated with a gel-based coat to give it a smooth feel and white coloration. They are durable, sturdy, and look very classy.

Acrylic shower trays are lightweight and easy to install. They may not be as sturdy and durable as stone resin trays, but still are very popular. Many alterations have been made in the development of acrylic shower trays, therefore, making them sturdy and durable. They are very affordable, and prove to be a good choice for those on a budget.

Ceramic shower trays are of very high quality, but they are very heavy, often in need of reinforcing once fitted, and are not suitable for all floors.

Shape and Size
There are four basic sizes of shower trays―square, quadrant, pentagonal, and rectangular.
Types of Shower Trays
Shower Tray Shapes

Square shower trays are ideal for bathrooms of all shapes and sizes. You can place this tray in the corner, middle, alcoves, and any recesses. This is the most versatile shape available and is immensely popular. They are available in various sizes ranging from 700 mm x 700 mm to 1000 mm x 1000 mm.

Quadrant shower trays are ideal for smaller bathrooms. They have two straight edges with a curved front, due to which, even though this tray has a smaller size, you get ample amount of space for showering. A quadrant shower tray, however, needs a shower enclosure, making the installation of this variety a little expensive.

Rectangular shower trays are ideal for large bathrooms. They provide a larger shower area and look very classy. Like square trays, you can place rectangular trays anywhere in the bathroom. They come in various sizes, and are apt for those who want to give their bathroom a touch of finesse.

Pentagonal shower trays look very similar to quadrant shower trays, but have straight edges on all 5 sides. They are apt as a corner fitting, and they hardly take up any space. They are immensely popular, as they look stylish and are also very compact.

Shower trays come in various sizes. The selection of the size completely depends on you and the size of your bathroom. If your bathroom is large, you can select a medium or large size, but if it's small, ideally you should be selecting a smaller tray.

Height is a very important factor while selecting your tray, as higher the tray, more difficult it is to enter and exit the shower area. Shower trays come in two basic constructions―slimline shower trays and easy-to-plumb shower trays, with the latter having height-adjustable legs under the trays.

Slimline trays look more appealing, as they are flat, fit perfectly to the floor, and are ideal for walk-in showers and wet rooms.

Easy-to-plumb trays are an ideal choice if you want trays that can be easily installed. These trays have legs attached to them that have an adjustable height. They are good if easy installation is your prime focus, but they can also be a trip hazard, as they have a good height of at least 40 mm - 80 mm above the ground.

Whatever tray you choose, make sure you choose wisely. Take some time, deliberate on your options, and then make the purchase. If you still cannot decide, set a budget, and choose the option that is closest to your budget.

Your personal spa awaits — in your bathroom

Read article : Your personal spa awaits — in your bathroom

Most bathroom spaces are small and not terribly exciting. Many don’t have windows, especially in condos, but you can make the smallest room in the house special, the perfect place to start and end your day — your very own spa.

I have just finished remodelling this bathroom, which was not huge, but I wanted it to have a real sense of glamour. My journey began by choosing the tub, as this is usually the most expensive item. Freestanding baths, whether clawfoot or sleek and modern, are the biggest bathroom trend right now. Once you have made the decision to treat yourself, the homework begins.

You will want to check out the many varieties of baths, keeping in mind the space it will live in at your home.

Visit showrooms and don’t be shy — climb right in and try out the tubs. And ask lots of questions, such as: Where do the taps go, freestanding or on the wall?

You are looking for a combination of style, comfort, price and ease of maintenance. The least expensive are fibreglas, acrylic and porcelain over steel.

All three are at the lower price range, but they can scratch or chip and even fade over time. They are all light and easy to install. Cast-iron tubs will last a lifetime and do not chip or stain easily. They are very heavy and you will need extra help to install them and might even require the floor to be reinforced.

However, because they are heavy, they retain the heat well, which I love. They are also expensive.

Proving more and more popular are solid-surface tubs because they come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be fixed if they chip. They are natural looking, but they are still heavy and quite expensive.

One of the most exciting materials used to make bathtubs is QuarryCast. This is the bath I chose, as it is superior to everything else I saw.

Made by Victoria+Albert from finely ground volcanic limestone mixed with resin, it has a wonderful hand-finished feel. The natural white comes from the stone and is glossy and silky to the touch. It is harder than acrylic, which makes it incredibly strong and ensures there is no creaking when you lower yourself into the tub.

I was hooked; time to move on to the flooring and shower tile.

Again, there is so much from which to choose. Ceramica Sant’Agostino is an Italian tile that is available worldwide. They lead the way in innovative floor and wall tile. Last year, they introduced a tile that looks like carpet. It sounds crazy, but it is a textured tile, which I love, as I am constantly slipping in the bathroom, probably due to the fact that I am a splasher.

This bathroom is small, but I still put down oversize tiles and the room actually looks bigger.

In the shower, I took the same grey as the floor and added a pure white, creating fat stripes.

I did not apply the tile to the rest of the bathroom walls. Instead, a giant black and white photo of Sophia Loren was blown up onto thick canvas by Motive Media, a visual communications company, and adhered to the surface with wallpaper glue.

They will take your beloved art and photos and turn them into wallpaper. The photo is a stunning background for my stylish tub. The wall taps are also by Victoria+Albert and are part of the entire drama of the bathroom.

It’s exciting times for the smallest room in the house. Enjoy your research and go a little wild.

Winter Custom Yachts 60 Wolverine Boat Review

Read article : Winter Custom Yachts 60 Wolverine Boat Review

I met Tim Winter and Capt. Rocky Hardison in Morehead City, North Carolina, as Winter was finishing up the last details prior to delivering Wolverine, his newest 60-footer, to the Fletcher family, and before it made its public debut at the Palm Beach Boat Show in March.

Wolverine’s curved transom, flowing broken shear line accentuated by her intermediate bumper, and beautiful Carolina flare met my expectations the moment I stepped on the dock. The sight of Hull No. 22 from Winter Custom Yachts triggered the special place in my heart for custom Carolina boats. I had watched the progress of the build for the past few months and eagerly awaited stepping aboard the beautiful rig to see what Winter had done with his latest creation.

Specs:

LOA: 60'6" | Beam: 18'3" | Draft: 5' | Disp.: 79,500 lb. | Fuel: 1,925 gal.
Water: 250 gal. | Power: Twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT 1,700 hp diesels

“We built Wolverine to be a traveling boat as well as a family boat. They will fish tournaments as a family, and it’s not important to them whether they win or lose, as long as they’re all spending time together,” says Winter. “Wolverine will spend time in the Bahamas, and then fish the tournaments in North Carolina and Bermuda. She will head for the Pacific next year. The Fletchers wanted a boat capable of extensive travel with extra fuel, the ability to fish for multiple species, and all the amenities of home so they can live aboard.”

Cockpit

Wolverine’s cockpit is built to allow the family to have plenty of room to fish and have a good time together. A Release Marine chair with a massive eight-hole rocket launcher and tray is the centerpiece of the cockpit. Winter is a man of details: He placed tuna tubes on both the port and starboard gunwales with lids that are a positive fit into the tuna tubes. This simple design element will eliminate rattling and movement while underway. There are also tuna tubes on the transom within the combination livewell/fish box. The mezzanine is complete with gaff, mop and chamois storage below the seat, and also features cockpit freezers on both sides. There is additional storage, including a teak tackle locker to starboard under the overhang. The ice maker dumps into an upper compartment beneath the seat and flows down into a lower box within the step.

Accommodations

Upon entering the spacious salon through the teak sliding door, you immediately notice the beautiful teak veneer work, which was cut from the same log to produce a consistent grain throughout the living areas. A flat-screen TV is tucked inside a teak cabinet to starboard. The aft end of the cabinet contains a storage area for cameras, and is heated by the engine room to minimize lens fogging when traversing from the cool salon to the cockpit on a hot day. Built into the forward end of the cabinet is a comfortable bucket jump seat facing the L-shaped sofa to port. A raised settee sits forward on the starboard side. Below the settee are two drawers that can house an assortment of lures and teasers.

The galley is forward to port and features a pair of Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer combos. A Keurig coffee maker rises up from under the countertop to utilize space that is typically wasted. A cooktop sits forward, along with a microwave in the forward cabinets; the upper cabinets contain custom CNC-cut dividers for cookware and pantry items.

The three staterooms below are accessed by a stairway: To port is the master with a queen bed and an accompanying bath with full-size shower. Moving forward is an over/under berth that is full of storage for rods, clothing and linens, and the day head is just aft. A tackle/rod storage closet sits between the laundry closet and the starboard bunkroom with three bunks. Typically, bunks fold up to allow access to storage, but Winter designed drawers onto the face of the bunks to make accessing this usable space easier. Winter incorporated another unique feature that affords an extra bunk: One of the lower bunks extends below the stairwell to create an additional sleeping area.

Engine Room

The Seakeeper 16 is located directly below the access to the engine room from the mezzanine. Wolverine’s engine room is spacious, allowing ample room to access the outside of the engines. All wiring is concealed behind accessible panels, creating a clean, visually appealing snow-white engine room. The dual 21.5 kW Caterpillar generators are aft of the engines and are easily accessed, just like the rest of the systems on board.

Bridge

The helm console sits port to center with a faux-teak electronics console, pod and dash. Winter typically mounts the electronics under a door, but Wolverine has three Simrad MO19-T monitors mounted to a black acrylic background with two rows of Bocatech switches for pumps and lights, producing a sleek array of electronics. A lid to port of the helm pod houses the Simrad autopilot, trim tabs, FLIR camera and the VHF command mics. Two Release Marine helm chairs sit behind the helm, and bench seating is forward of the console and on the starboard side of the bridge. A freezer under the forward bench can accommodate plenty of bait or food for when the boat is traveling. Other handy features include an air compressor to fill polyballs, as well as a separate washdown for cleaning the bridge after a long day of fishing.

Construction

Boatbuilding methods have advanced in recent years, but many builders continue to utilize plywood hulls. Wolverine is no exception, incorporating a triple-plank fir bottom and fir stringers. The remainder of the boat is constructed from Diab closed-cell foam to create a strong and light structure, and all of the hatches and hatch gutters are molded fiberglass. All areas of the boat are ventilated with forced air; Winter also utilizes an Arid dry-vacuum system to keep all bilge areas completely dry.

Performance

A pair of 1,700 hp Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines matched with ZF gears turns the set of Veem propellers to provide the power for Wolverine.

As we approached Beaufort Inlet, Capt. Hardison eased the throttles forward, and she quickly raised out of the water and accelerated with no bow lift. She settled into her cruising speed of 31-plus knots at 1,900 rpm while burning 118 gph; wide open, Wolverine makes 42 knots at 2,360 rpm with a fuel burn of 180 gph.

It was a calm day, so we were unable to observe how she handles in rough water. However, as any Winter owner will attest, the boat will exceed your expectations in any sea condition.

“Wolverine is a culmination of all I have learned in the previous 21 boats, and I could not be prouder,” said Winter as we returned to the dock. In the custom-boatbuilding arena, Winter is proving to be a hard worker with a talented team of craftsmen seeking to learn and make each boat better than the last.

The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection

Read article : The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection

WHAT IS IT?

Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR.jpg" alt="Chanel No 5 The Bath The Body The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR" width="640" height="380" />

The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013, consists of The Foaming Bath, 200ml ($75), The Cleansing Cream, 200ml ($75), The Bath Soap, 150g ($43, not reviewed here), The Body Lotion, 200ml ($93), The Deodorant, 100ml ($60) and The Hair Mist, 40ml ($59).

The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 of bath and body products is scented with Chanel’s first and most iconic No. 5 fragrance, created in 1921 by Gabrielle Chanel.

Besides being named for Coco Chanel’s lucky number, this abstract scent, made up of over 80 ingredients such as ylang ylang and Grasse jasmine and May rose, harbours no specific top note. The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 claims to not only scent you from top to toe, but to also moisturise, comfort and relax your body.

WHAT WE THINK ABOUT ...

THE PACKAGING

Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR PRODUCTS 1.jpg" alt="Chanel No 5 The Bath The Body The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR PRODUCTS 1" width="640" height="380" />Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013: The Foaming Bath, The Cleansing Cream and The Body Lotion

The packaging of the Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013, is classic Coco Chanel – timeless, luxurious, and on the right side of fashion-forward, even in its simple shapes, with san serif fonts and neutral white-black-gold hues.

In keeping with the luxe designer positioning of this 104-year-old French brand, The Foaming Bath, The Cleansing Cream and The Body Lotion have screw caps in heavy acrylic – a bit unwieldy in the shower stall but hey, luxury doesn’t come cheap. The Deodorant comes in a lightweight canister, very post-modern, and slim-enough for any gym bag. So too The Hair Mist, which is even niftier at just 40ml.

THE PRODUCTS

Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR PRODUCTS 2.jpg" alt="Chanel No 5 The Bath The Body The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 DECOR PRODUCTS 2" width="640" height="380" />
Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013: The Deodorant
& The Hair Mist

The Chanel No. 5 Cleansing Cream foams lightly – two 20-cent-coin-size squirts are enough for the entire body – and rinses off easily, leaving the skin silken and scented. The Chanel No. 5 Foam Bath is great for soaking hands and feet pre manicure and pedicure. This also rinses off easily and leaves a subtle just-right bouquet.

I’m not a fan of body lotions as I find most hard to rub in and to have overpowering scents. The Chanel No. 5 Body Lotion however is light yet creamy and absorbed into my skin in double-quick time, leaving me feeling pampered and perfumed.

The Chanel No. 5 Deodorant works like a fragrance for active days and the Chanel No. 5 Hair Mist is addictive and more-ish – hair smells so lovely after each spritz you just want to keep adding more. I applied a halo of it onto my tresses before bedtime and I swear it helped put me to slumber – relaxing indeed. I loved how I smelt the next morning – like a million bucks.

THE RESULTS
When layered over one another, the Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 bath and body products have a light yet lasting fragrance power. They’re great essentials to have in the shower, prettify the bathroom, and aren’t too heavy to cart with you on a relaxing vacation. Such luxury is worth every dollar, and with Christmas around the corner, it is just the thing to pamper yourself with. One does feel and smell like fashion royalty after each layering session. All that’s missing from this collection is a purse-size hand cream. I’m sure Marilyn would agree.

Total score: 22/25

The Chanel No. 5 The Bath, The Body, The Senses Christmas Collection 2013 is available from the Chanel Fragrance and Beauty Boutiques located at #B2-43 ION Orchard,  #B1-134 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and Chanel Beauty counters. Bathroom Of The '90s Comes Out Of The Closet

Read article : Bathroom Of The '90s Comes Out Of The Closet

November 14, 1992|By Ava Van De Water, Cox News Service

WEST PALM BEACH — Not since the outhouse moved indoors has the bathroom undergone such revolutionary changes.

Bathrooms have grown from just a necessary room to an enjoyable place where we do everything from soak in the tub to exercise.

Just as kitchens are combining with family rooms to become ''real living rooms,'' the master bathroom is joining forces with the master bedroom and closet to become a dressing/grooming/exercise/relaxation suite.

While nothing tops the sybaritic 1980s master bath that was big enough for a family of four, the paring down mode of the '90s has not affected the bathroom as much as one might think.

Some homeowners, especially those whose children have moved away, are combining a small, fourth bedroom and bath into a huge master bathroom suite.

''The master bath is becoming a personal haven, with whirlpools and steam rooms,'' said Dave Johnson of Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath. ''It's not unusual to bring people through and show off your bath.''

And in areas where land costs are reasonable, the master bathroom is becoming equal in size to the master bedroom. But rather than being one huge room, the master bathroom is more compartmentalized, says Liz Hogan, editor of Sunset Books, which publishes home improvement books, including Ideas for Great Bathrooms.

Today's master bath suites have separate showers and tubs, his-and-her vanities, dressing rooms and dual walk-in closets. Some even have reading nooks and fireplaces, although the latter is more popular in northern climes.

Manufacturers are boosting the importance of the bath by offering more choice than ever in fixtures and materials. Besides tile, granite and marble are being used extensively in bathrooms. And cabinets come in as many different styles and materials as in the kitchen.

Today's master bathroom includes space for morning rush-hour dressing. It also functions as a retreat at the end of a stressful day. But it is not whirlpool tubs that today's homeowners turn to - it's the ''power shower.'' Accessories include everything from dual shower heads to therapeutic jets.

Whirlpool tubs, which made their mass debut in the late '70s and '80s, are still popular, although most people don't have time to enjoy them.

''Most people still put them (whirlpool tubs) in, even though 90 percent of the people don't use them,'' said Jane Throckmorton of Davis & Warshow, a luxury bathroom products dealer in Jupiter. But people still want the whirlpools because they give an important boost to resale values, Throckmorton added.

The biggest decision in choosing a whirlpool tub is acrylic or cast iron. Acrylic is lighter and offers more shape options. What's more, at $1,600 to $1,800, it's considerably less than the cast iron, which runs $2,400 to $3,200, depending on size and manufacturer.

If you can live without a whirlpool, a 5-foot cast iron tub runs about $250 to $280. But Throckmorton said most people prefer an oversized acrylic tub - a 6-foot tub that runs $800 to $1,000, depending on size, color and manufacturer.

''There is probably $600 to $1,000 difference between an acrylic oversize tub and a whirlpool,'' she said.

If you are remodeling or updating your bath, think white. Just as in the kitchen, all-white fixtures are the rage now.

''People have a tendency to get tired of color,'' Throckmorton said. It's more economical to change wallpaper, paint, towels and shower curtains. Even the colors they are using are neutral, like peach and 'innocent blush,' '' a sort of almond with a pink tint.

If you insist on using color, beware of black, teal, red and navy.

''Any of your dark colors are high-maintenance,'' Throckmorton said. ''They show water spots and dust. The way the water is down here, there's always a lot of spotting.''

If you really want color, consider colored faucets, which are gaining in popularity. Faucets come in mustard yellow, fire-engine red, teal, royal blue - and even simple black or white.

Bathroom size is still important to homeowners, but with the exception of the ''power shower,'' flashy accessories are not. ''In the late '80s, they would put $1,200 faucets in every bath,'' Throckmorton said.

2014 The Italian Sea Group Admiral Sail - Silent 76, Carrara Italy

Read article : 2014 The Italian Sea Group Admiral Sail - Silent 76, Carrara Italy

Features:

1. Construction

Hull Construction:

The hull is moulded in GRP from female moulds; it uses a high properties gelcoat and the internal side of the hull is vacuum infused with isoftalic polyester resin while the skincoat features a further application of vi-nylester resin in order to avoid and limit osmosis. Additional reinforce-ments are included to the keel area, the keel longitudinal, mast bulkhead, structural P-brackets, engine room basement, forestay and hull stringers. Limber holes which penetrate structural areas and/or tubes are installed at appropriate points on stringers, bulkhead – landings and floors.

Hull Finishes:

Grey metal hull and with light grey superstructure; red waterline and black antifouling;

Deck Construction:

Moulded in GRP with a PVC foam cored structure for strength and insula-tion. In load bearing areas the core is replaced with plywood for additional strength, and all load bearing fittings have backing plates.

The hull to deck connection is achieved by bonding the deck onto the return flange of the hull and using the glue approved by Class rules in or-der to create a structural junction.

Deck Finishes:

The weather deck, cockpit seats, sole areas and part of the coachroof area are finished with teak planking (10mm). This is laid using epoxy ad-hesive, with no visible fastenings.

The areas either side of the main companionway are finished with teak planking, with open stowage areas and stainless steel rails.

All lockers drain outside and their hinges and catches are recessed or hid-den into Teak planking, as appropriate.

Keel System:

The keel is a high performance bulb design.

The ballast keel is made of lead casting bolted to the GRP hull with stain-less steel bolts. Ballast weight is approximately 14,800 kgs. .

The keel is designed to combine moderate draft with good sailing perfor-mance due to its efficient shape and side winglets. The centre of gravity is very low due to the fact that the centerboard is made of cast iron while the actual keel is made of lead.

Mast and Boom:

Max Spar conventional alloy mast (made of two parts) with Ronstan track for in-boom furling mainsail with top tapered (last 3 meters). Triple spread-er rig with tapered aerofoil spreaders (21° angle).

Custom carbon boom – deep and trapezoidal section incorporating Bamar furling system and electric motor for in-boom furling mainsail.

Mast & Boom and Mast & Vang connections are custom made in alumi-num and feature a special, custom made concealing cover, made of car-bon, which gives a unique design. Also the vang itself feature a custom made concealing cover, made of two carbon conical blocks.

The guest cockpit is over 3m long and self-draining as it’s on the same level of the main deck. There are also cockpit drains which ease the water to drain away while at sea and going upwind. There is a clear walkway giving excellent access from the companionway to the helm positions and side decks, all on the same level.
The cockpit features two teak-topped opening, sliding and telescopic tables.
The tables are permanently installed and have seats on three sides due to the cockpit design. The table is provided with a cover. Under one of the cockpit seats a top opening fridge finds place.
Three pairs of flush mounted waterproof loud speakers are mounted in the guest cockpit with their own cockpit mounted remote control unit for the dedicated ‘cockpit’ CD/Tuner head unit (head unit installed below decks).
Two of those speakers are used by the vhf system, as external loud speakers.
The helm position has twin custom GRP and aluminium steering pedestals
incorporating all the standard controls and instruments with plenty of room for additional equipment, if required. Each pedestal has a flush-mounted compass with internal lighting. There is a double lever engine control fitted at the starboard pedestal. The wheels are fitted in a reverse position, giving easy and safe access to the instruments mounted on both pedestals.
At the helm position an aluminium roll-bar finds place. This is the base where the two fixed points for the mainsheet system are fitted.
Aft the helm positions is a clear flat deck area, which can be filled with cushions, creating a sunbathing area. This area also includes two big lockers with flush-to-deck lids, teak covered; they are designed to host two liferafts or alternatively one can be dedicated to a liferaft and the other one to store lines. A custom flush hatch is fitted with twin gas struts, drain channels, rubber seal and against the wind closing to give access to the large dinghy garage.

The bathing platform created by the transom once it’s open it is provided with a demountable stainless steel bathing ladder and it’s covered by teak planking.
A removable ladder also connects the main deck to the transom when open. Alternatively also the gangway can be used for this purpose.
There is a hot and cold freshwater deck shower located in the dinghy garage which can be used on the bathing platform thanks to a flexible hose.
The garage door is also provided with an emergency system for opening the garage, which is placed close to the waterline, protected by a stainless steel screwed in cap and which can be operated by a person in the water.

Hard Top:

The yacht features a custom cockpit hard top, which gives a very good protection to the all cockpit and helm positions. This feature is unique on yachts of this size and contributes to the overall design of the yacht.

The hard has an aluminium structure, attached to the aluminium roll-bar which is placed aft. The practical functions of this will be both sprayhood and bimini.
The hard top has a glass cover and an opening area which is covered with acrylic material (Sunbrella), with battens.
The hard top also features side glasses which deliver complete protection to the forward end of the cockpit seats.

Anchoring:

A Quick 3000w electric anchor windlass is installed below deck and within the anchor chain locker. The windlass, which is two-way and operated by adjacent foot switch controls is well over specified for the size of the vessel.
The 63kg (approximately) Delta anchor stows into the retractable stemhead fitting.
120 metres of 12mm calibrated, galvanized chain is fitted to match the
windlass. The chain is fastened at its 'bitter end' to a through-bolted stainless
