Bath Rugby bowed out of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s with a Finals Day defeat to Leicester Tigers.

Bowl Semi-Final

Bath were first to score in the second Bowl Semi-Final of the day, with Levi Davis scoring another stunning length of the field effort. 0-7. 

It was the only score of the half, and patient build-up early in the second saw Joe Luca Smith athletically score in the corner to add a further five points to Bath's lead. 0-12. 

Leicester hit back quickly. Jack Stapley found a gap to surge through for his side's first score, followed quickly by Alex Glashan touching down by the corner flag. Glashan's try levelled the scores, and the touchline conversion gave Tigers the lead for the first time in the game. 14-12.

With just a minute left on the clock, Tigers broke through again and Stapley crossed the whitewash to secure his side's place in the Bowl Final. 

Final score: Leicester Tigers 19 - Bath Rugby 12. 

Bath Rugby closed day one of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s at with two hard-fought defeats against Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors at Franklin's Gardens, Northampton. 

Game one - Bath Rugby v Sale Sharks

Sale Sharks scored the opening points of the game, with Paolo Odogwu crossing the whitewash to give his side the early lead. Following sustained pressure in the opening minutes, the Sharks  spread the ball wide to find Ogowu, who touched down in the left corner. 0-5  

Bath were quickly back on level terms with Sikeli Rokovunicagi combining with captain Will Homer. The Fijian bamboozled the Sharks defence with a clever reverse pass, which sent Homer through the gap and over for Bath’s first try of the evening. 7-5

However, it was the opposition who went into the interval in front on the scoreboard. After piling in the numbers on the breakdown, the ball fell to Nic Dolly, who had the simple task of running in unopposed from the 22. 7-10

Sale added a third try in the opening stages of the second half through Arron Reed, who finished in the corner after the ball was swept from the right wing to the left. 7-15

Bath came close to responding through Jordan Ainslie, but it was a breakaway try from the Sharks, which put them further ahead in the tie. A clever kick up field was gathered by the men in yellow and offloaded to the on-rushing Connor Doherty, who ran in unopposed to give his side a 15-point lead. 7-22

Ainslie showed his grit and determination running in from his own 22, to give Bath a consolation try on their first game of the evening.

Game two - Bath Rugby v Worcester Warriors 

Worcester opened the scoring through Tom Dodd in the opening two minutes breaking the Bath defence to go over under the posts. However, Bath hit back straight from the restart, with Levi Davis leaving the Warriors’ defence for dust after claiming the ball from the restart and finishing in impressive fashion. 5-7

Within 30 seconds, the Warriors were back on the scoreboard, this time through Alex Forrester, who went through the middle of the Bath defence. Max Stelling added a fourth moments later to put his side firmly in control of the game at the interval. 

Half-time – Bath Rugby 5-21 Worcester Warriors

The Warriors started from where they left off with Huw Taylor finishing from close range, before Will Butler added a fifth to give his side a commanding lead. 5-35

However, Bath kept fighting right until the end and were rewarded for their efforts with Rory Wood darting and weaving through a number of challenges with an impressive finish. 12-35

With the game in its final play, there was just enough time for Fin Dewar to show his trickery. The 18-year-old gave the Warriors’ defence the run around with some clever footwork before scoring his first try of the evening.
