DANVILLE — A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Danville man who police said admitted stealing a powered wheelchair, selling it to his uncle for $50 and then hiding from police behind a shower curtain.
Billy Henninger, 40, was scheduled to appear Monday at a preliminary hearing before Montour County District Judge but mailings Shrawder's office sent him came back so a warrant was issued, a spokeswoman in Shrawder's office said Thursday.
Henninger faces charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possessing a small amount of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to the charges filed by Patrolman Cody Clossen, Flora McCauley parked her powered wheelchair on a porch at the Upper Mulberry St. home of Judy Carper on July 10. She and Carper then left for a doctor’s appointment.
McCauley told police a neighbor saw the person who removed the chair. As police were headed to the Carper home, they saw a wheelchair matching the description driven by a young child in the grass at 500 Pine St. Apartments. The child said the chair was given to his grandfather, Lee Henninger. Lee Henninger said he paid $25 to his nephew, Billy Henninger. Lee Henninger told police he paid half the $50 his nephew asked for and didn’t know the chair was stolen.
Police found Billy Henninger at the home of his brother, who told them he was hiding in the bathroom.
Officer Keith Davenport found a cellophane wrapper containing green vegetable matter and a glass pipe with green vegetable matter belonging to Billy Henninger in the home. Officers transported Billy Henninger to his uncle’s home to return the money and then to return the chair.
