The right shower curtain rod can enhance your bathroom decor.

A shower curtain makes a big statement in your bathroom, but it is important to consider the shower curtain rod as well. Shower curtain rods are available in a variety of styles and materials, and finding the perfect rod for your bathroom depends on a number of factors.

Decor

Look for a shower curtain rod to complement your bathroom’s decor. Things like wall coverings and colors as well as fixture styles and finishes should play into your decision. The pattern, style and material of the shower curtain you will be hanging from the rod is a big consideration and so are the types and colors of towels, bathmat and rugs.

Materials

Shower curtain rods can be both utilitarian and aesthetically pleasing. They are manufactured to be strong enough to hold up a shower curtain as well as damp towels hung over them to dry and they come in a variety of materials to enhance your bathroom. Most shower curtain rods are made of either plastic or metal. Shower curtain rods made of wood are also an option. A plastic rod that complements your bathroom style is a good way to enhance the room’s decor. Plastic rods come in many colors and are reasonably priced. Their only drawback is that they are not as durable as metal rods. A chrome rod works well with chrome light fixtures, faucets and towel bars and gives the room a modern touch. A shower curtain rod with a brass finish will work well in an Old World-influenced room while one of wood would be a good choice for a country or primitive style bathroom.

Shapes

If you would like more room in the shower, consider a rod that curves outward. A shower above a claw foot tub calls for a circular rod while a corner shower requires one that is L-shaped. Measure the area to be sure you buy a rod that is the correct size. Most shower curtain rods are adjustable, but keep in mind that you can make a large rod smaller but it is difficult to make a rod that is too small larger.

Wall Type

Consider the material of the wall where you will hang your shower curtain. For example, if your tub or shower surround is tile, a spring or tension rod that expands by twisting and adheres to the wall with friction is a good choice because you don’t need to drill into the wall to install it.

I bought what I thought was identical to Burlington Coat Factories exact shower curtain through Zuma. Burlington's black in the print was much more richer & deeper in black & the gold is a true gold with Burlington in comparison to yours that is more in the family of tan. Had I not already seen Burlington's 1st I would have been contempt.I am using the shower curtains side by side to look like window curtains so they need to match. Unfortunately Burlington Coat Factory no longer carries this design by Zuma. The rest of my order is beautiful. Would love the lamps displayed with the comforter.

Just received yesterday, and lets just say I am picky, picky, picky. I love this shower curtain, the material is very nice with weight to it the colors are perfect for my bathroom, the beige color was lighter then my computer showed more of a linen color but in my opinion it looks even nicer. I really like the shower hooks. My only suggestion would be to make the hook itself from heavier stuff as the colored button on the front is heavy and pulls the hook downward leaving little of the hook actually over the shower rod.

The Zuma shower curtain is great quality. Along with the matching shower curtain hooks, waste basket, and soap dispenser it fits right in with the animal theme decor for the master bath & bedroom. It took several weeks for the shower curtain hooks to arive, but I was notified a few times by a Touch of Class that they were still on back order. I appreciate the updates.

Moen Curved Shower Rod Review

Moen recently sent us two of their unique curved shower rods to review. If you have a shower that uses boring straight shower rods, or worse yet, those rolling frosted glass enclosures from the 70’s, please read on. If, however, you have a spacious, frameless glass shower you could play volleyball in and that might be featured on MTV Cribs, we are jealous of you and you have no business reading this review.

First some additional pre-screening: Have you ever been showering and had your shower curtain glom onto you like a wet, possessed ghost? Do you have incredibly broad shoulders? Are you claustrophobic? Do you like to shower with friends? If any of these apply to you, or maybe you just want a stylish way to add a little more space in the shower, then the Moen Curved Shower Rod is for you!

The Moen Curved Shower Rods come in a fixed 5′ length (which can be cut down a bit to size), or telescoping “sets”, which adjust to fit shower enclosures between 54- and 72-inches with no cutting required. In my case, we installed the telescoping variety, in a oil rubbed bronze finish (which looks great if you’re into bronze). Moen’s term for this finish is actually “old world bronze.”

A few things to consider in terms of installation. Since the shower rod is curved, it can add space but also potentially remove some space at its ends, depending on how far in or out you install it. If you install the rod further out, you naturally get more space in the shower. The downside to installing further out, is you’ll lose some space in the actual bathroom (a factor to consider if your bathroom is small like ours). If you install too far out and the shower is in a tub, you run the risk of your shower curtain draping or falling outside the tub during use. If you install the the rod too far in, it will still look cool, but will defeat the purpose of the curved rod. For these reasons, I recommend you do a test fit with your curtain actually on the rod, to find the happy medium for where to mount the rod.

The rod can be installed on tile or drywall, but keep in mind tile installation will require that you use a tile drill bit. Moen includes a couple handy paper templates to mark out your holes (which vary depending on whether you install into studs vs install into drywall). I managed to install into studs, but I wound up using the anchors that Moen included on a different project (I’m cheap that way). My only minor complaint about the Moen curved shower rods is that the anchor screws that came with mine were poor quality (3 out of 6 of them failed to expand and became unusable). If you’re using anchors rather than going straight into studs, and you have problems with the included anchors, I’d recommend a trip to the hardware store for a more robust variety. Anchors aside, the installation process is easy if you’re at all handy.

Once installed, the curved shower rod looks great. A definite step up in style over boring big box store straight rods. The real pleasure with the curved shower rod is actually taking a shower. You and all your co-showering friends will feel like you remodeled your shower, making shower maneuvering and grabbing the soap that much less awkward! And no more wet attacks from the maniacal shower curtain ghost that used to love groping you so much. All in all, highly recommended.

If your shower stall is a cramped, but you can't afford to remodel the entire bathroom, install a curved shower curtain instead. Curved shower curtains, frequently seen in hotel bathrooms, add a few extra inches of space to the shower. Curved shower rods are made to fit shower enclosures between 57 and 60 inches wide and easily accommodate standard 72-inch wide shower curtains.

Things You'll Need

• Drill

• Wall patch

• Pencil

• Screws

• Curved shower rod

Remove your old shower rod and prep the area for a new shower rod by removing debris and patching any holes. Mark the area for the new brackets with a pencil. Hang the curved shower rod at the same height as the old rod, but 2 to 3 inches inside the previous marks to allow the curtain to drape inside the tub wall. Snap the curved rod into place in the brackets.

Replace the shower rings and shower curtain.

Nautical Bathroom Makeover - The Cards We Drew

This post has been months in the making…we started planning this bathroom in June and finally in August we’ve finished it! Our Nautical Bathroom for our son is complete and we are all in love and sighing a sigh of relief.

When we moved into our house, we had these plain, vanilla bathrooms in each room. We have 2 1/2 bathes total and to date we have one and a half finished now. Here’s our 1/2 bath makeover from a few months ago. Our master bath, the best of all, is last on the list. Our bathrooms lacked character and were outfitted with builders grade cabinets, lights, and fixtures. While the cabinets remain the same, we hit the whole room with a coat of paint and tons of updates…and we took our bathroom from THIS:

Doesn’t even look like the same bathroom anymore does it?! Let’s get a side by side look for comparison 😉

Ok…enough before and after’s…although I kinda love looking at them. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty…what did we do?

I’ll have some more follow up posts this week with specifics, but here’s the what we did:

1. Painted the cabinets and trim in the room white.

2. Repainted the room from light green to light gray, yes, it’s gray, not light blue. Promise. It’s the same color we’ll be used for our son’s bedroom makeover (next up on the list and in progress). It’s a Benjamin Moore color.

3. Replaced the plain white shower curtain with a navy and white striped shower curtain from West Elm. It’s the same shower curtain that matches the duvet cover I got for my son’s room. Notice the awesome new curved, brushed nickel shower curtain rod from Moen that I am in love with.

4. Replaced all of the hardware in the bathroom with great new fixtures provided by Moen. Moen sent us brushed nickel bathroom fixtures to try out after I got to see them at SNAP in April. They really took the room from builder’s grade to a whole new level of customized. We used all new fixtures from their Ashville Collection that is meant to be spot resistant and microban protected. We LOVE the new fixtures and later this week I’ll show you some of the details of getting those items replaced! Thank goodness my dad is a contractor because we wouldn’t have been able to do that ourselves!

5. Replaced our UGLY builders grade light fixture with an awesome, custom navy blue Barn Light Electric light fixture…one of my FAVORITE parts of the bathroom and more to come on that this week! This light fixture makes me a happy happy girl 😉 Who else can say they have this in their house?! It’s so unique!

6. Added a MirrorMate frame to our plain, unframed mirror from before. The white frame really adds a gorgeous touch to the room and makes the mirror look custom for a great price and little effort. It takes NO time to install and I’d buy a MirrorMate frame any day over a new mirror.

7. Then, of course, we decorated. I recycled a lot of stuff I already had around the house and added a GORGEOUS handmade sign from Evie Ivy…I saw her first at SNAP and purchased a sign from her there and knew I had to have another one for this bathroom. HER STUFF IS ADORABLE and I LOVE IT. Seriously…go check it out. I want one of each (more to come on that later this week). Our previous bathroom was light green, so I used the same bath mat and striped green bath towels to go with the room.

I made the little frames over the toilet using scrapbook paper and wooden decorations I purchased from JoAnn’s. I painted a few of them to match my decor better, attached them to the paper, and put them back in the frames I already had. They work perfectly over the toilet and I already had them from the guest bedroom we’re converting.

Overall…I’m so happy with how this turned out. I’ll share more specific details on all the awesome vendors I used later this week.
