Freestanding Shower Problems | Home Guides

Read article : Freestanding Shower Problems | Home Guides

A freestanding shower is a separate unit from the bathtub, and includes a shower unit only. Most freestanding showers are sold as prefabricated units, ready to be placed in your bathroom.

Water, Water Everywhere

Removing a bathtub and installing a freestanding shower can reduce the resale value of your home, especially if there are no other bathtubs in the house. A poor quality freestanding shower unit may develop leaks over time, either at the panel seams or in the pan at the bottom. Poorly built doors pull away from the hinges over time and not only allow water to escape, but make the shower look old and worn. In a small bathroom, swinging doors on freestanding showers can get in the way. Shower curtains solve this problem, but can let water splash out onto the floor if not used properly, and can get pulled into the shower by updrafts created by hot water during use.
