A place to stay in Brecon - Review of The Beacons, Brecon

This was a last-minute booking but a really pleasant experience in general. Everything you'd expect and hope for from a mid-range 3-star B&B. No frills but all the essentials are there. Very friendly and helpful owners and staff, solid full breakfast with basic continental option, clean and tidy room, basic en-suite and room facilities, staff willing to go the extra mile for you. Great location for the Brecon Beacons as a starting out point and the local town itself is nice. Easy and free parking round the back.

Three minor things to improve - wifi needs to be moved into the central hall area, with an extender upstairs - currently the WIFI works literally only directly opposite the reception room and in the front bit of the dining room - it's a real issue when you just want to quickly look up the weather forecast, check a train timetable or plan your day. Not a costly thing to do (around £60 for a new router and extenders) and I'm sure it would benefit almost every single visitor significantly.

The second thing would be to have a proper entry system at the front of the house so you don't need to go round the back every evening when returning, which can be a bit of a drag.

We would also have preferred if breakfast could be extended to 9:30. 8-9am is quite an early start when you're on holiday. Not a big deal, would be nice.

It's worth mentioning also that if you're in a room around the back there is a good chance that smokers will be outside your room with smoke coming directly in through your window, which isn't great.

Overall, a really pleasant, solid, mid-range B&B in a great location, very reasonably priced with very friendly and helpful staff who really do go the extra mile for you. Recommended!
