The room and bathroom were both very comfortable... - Review of Piccolino Hotel

Chose to stay there after reading some positive reviews on the internet, however I was very dissappointed with the condition of the hotel upon arrival. Looks classy from the street and deserved of the relatively high overnight rate, but the interior is in dire need of repair and upgrade.
Stairs are steep and the railing is weak ... all the way to the 4th floor. Most rooms are without shades/curtains, meaning that you can see in from outside at night when the lights are on. Bathrooms are tiny, with poor plumbing, bad lighting and no exhaust. Toilet seat broken and needs 3 or more flushes to remove waste. Bedroom also very tiny, even smaller than the tiny rooms you come to expect in the UK. Windows had cracked panes and had no locks. Anyone could open them ... if they dared. We had a wire-sprung mattress ... more wire than padding, definitely in need of replacement. The breakfast was the usual continental style, and I must make a special mention about the toast. One minute we see a woman (owner/cleaner who knows?) through the dining room window pushing clothes into the washing machine ... next second she's buttering toast and serving the guests ... without washing her hands. No wonder disease spreads!
All in all, despite the great location, my family and I would never stay there again, and we'd recommend to others not to waste their money there either. Friendly, courteous staff, but a real hovel of a place.
